LIVIN it up at Helensvale State High

We were back on home soil recently with a visit to Helensvale State High School on the Gold Coast. Helensvale State High School is one of the Gold Coast’s largest high schools with just under 2,600 enrolments. With this many students under one roof, it was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the importance for young adults to identify mental health issues and speak up if they are struggling.

Giving teenagers these life tools before they step out on their own is crucial in helping their transition from high school into the ‘real world’ to be a smooth one. There is a large amount of emotions involved in finishing school and leaving friends and this can sometimes be a trigger for underlying mental health issues to surface and become unmanageable.

We had a productive and engaging chat with the graduating class of 2017 and spoke about some of these possible issues and ways in how to cope with them. It never fails to amaze us how willing students are to talk about mental health when prompted and given the proper tools to start a conversation.

Our recent visit to Helensvale State High School with our LIVINWell Schools Program was another awesome milestone for both the school and our organization for spreading the recognition that #ItAintWeakToSpeak.

Best of luck to the graduating class of 2017, we know you guys have got this.
